Public Lands Planning

September 26, 2005

LEGAL NOTICE

The Bureau of Parks and Lands proposes a modification to a portion of the Integrated Resource Policy (IRP).

This policy provides land management guidance to the Bureau. The IRP directs the Bureau “to develop a 10-year management plan for each Public Reserved and Nonreserved Land Unit, State Park, and Historic Site. Existing plans will be revised following the initial 10-year period, and amended according to the policies in place at that time.”

The Bureau proposes to change the 10-year to a 15-year interval.

This proposed revised interval reflects the intensive and comprehensive nature of the planning process, and matches the time frame used for forestry planning. In the interim, according to the IRP, management plans can be reopened as needed in any case to address significant changes. The IRP can be viewed online at the Bureau's web site.

Go to http://www.maine.gov/doc/parks/programs/planning/index.html

The Bureau will receive written comments on the proposed modification until October 14th, 2005.

Please email comments to john.titus@maine.gov, or mail to:
